From superhero drawings to self portraits, Mattapoisett's annual elementary art show was a colorful collection of students' work over the school year.

The artwork was on display Thursday afternoon at Center School and included Old Hammondtown School students as well.

"Each of the students choose what they feel is their best piece from the portfolio," said art teacher Greta Anderson. "They look through everything they've done and choose something that they're proud of."

Second grader Eden Dupre chose her rendering of a Santa Claus penguin holding a snowball.

"He got it from his igloo," said Eden. "I like this because I didn't smudge the magic marker because there isn't any magic marker. Plus, the background is kind of tie dye."

Among the other art projects on display were self portraits from sixth grade students that were composed of words instead of lines.

"Students choose adjectives or quotes that they feel describe them or inspire them, and they write them as small as they can," explained Anderson. "They're self portraits representationally but also symbolically."

Student teacher Chantal Allen said she was impressed with all the work at the show. She has been at the schools for the past month and half and said she has enjoyed helping the kids and getting ready for the event.

"I love getting hands on with them and really helping them progress their artwork," she said. "It's beautiful."
