Old Hammondtown students joined the children at Center School on Friday morning for the annual Flag Day ceremony.

Students gathered around the flagpole on the Center School lawn and welcomed members of the Florence Eastman American Legion Post.

The group observed a moment of silence for armed service men and women who have, are and will serve the country.

The kindergarten, first and second grade students each sang a song, and the Old Hammondtown School concert band also performed patriotic pieces.

"We are privileged to live in the country of America," said Principal Rose Bowman. "Many, many people have made huge sacrificed in life so we can have the freedom we do today."

Bowman also thanked the American Legion members for their service.

Following the ceremony, Center School welcomed senior citizens from town to the Great American Breakfast. The third grade class, dressed as famous Massachusetts residents, serenaded the crowd with patriotic music and familiar tunes.
