Mattapoisett trick or treaters start off night with annual parade

Before they started their trick or treating, many families got the lay of the land with Mattapoisett's annual Halloween parade, sponsored by the Police Department.

Standing in front of her barber shop, Jodie Bauer, her husband Mike and son Garrett assumed their usual place at the front of the parade. Mike and Garrett wore drums and used them to keep parade goers in tempo.

"He was 10 when we first strapped this drum on him," Jodie said of her son, who returned to the parade Saturday night after a hiatus while he was at college.

The parade is an annual tradition for many, including Lyli Souza, Victoria Souza's dog.

This year Lyli rode in a wagon.

"She has bad hips, but she still wants to come," said Victoria.

After the parade, kids had plenty of houses to go to in the Village for candy.

Outside one house on Barstow Street, Rita Stellate and Sharon Walsh handed out goodies.

"All treats, no tricks here," said Walsh.
