Mattapoisett Village walking tours

Walking tours of historic Mattapoisett Village will be hosted by the Mattapoisett Historical Society on July 30 and August 13.

Each tour will start at the Mattapoisett Historical Society, located at 5 Church St., at 2 p.m.

Seth Mendell will speak about historic buildings, the electric rail, the saltworks on Goodspeed’s Island, the Charles King Mansion at the mouth of the river, and “The Dude Special.” Visualize the building of whale ships in the park and how the British attempted to burn the shipyards during the War or 1812.

The duration of the walk is approximately an hour and 15 minutes. Members may attend at no cost. The cost for non-members is $5.
