Mattapoisett voters pass all 34 agenda items

May 9, 2017

All 34 items at the Mattapoisett Town Meeting passed on Monday night. A total of 166 voters participated.

Mattapoisett voters passed a $25,692,355 budget at Town Meeting on Monday night. The 166 voters also passed the 33 other agenda items.

Voters approved the town’s request to start negotiating a PILOT, payment in lieu of taxes, agreement with two solar farms. The solar farms are located on Crystal Spring Road and Tinkham Hill Road. PILOT agreements are essentially a way for the company to stabilize taxes over the term of the solar agreement with the town. The two other solar projects in town are already using PILOT agreements.

A $9,799,558 10-year capital planning budget was also passed. Projects include routine things like replacing building windows at the police station, buying two police cruisers and floor repairs to Old Hammondtown School and Center School. There is also a $2.1 million update for sewer piping and the treatment plant, as well as $1.5 million for the North Street sewer extension.

The $2.1 million spent on the sewer and plant improvements could cause water and sewer bills to go up. A high estimate would be $33.42 per billing cycle, $66.84 per year, and would amount to a little more than $5 per month.
