Mattapoisett's Barstow Wharf to have new floats
Mattapoisett is set to get two new floats at Barstow Wharf.
Harbormaster Horace Field said the current float at the end of Barstow Wharf has been in disrepair for years.
A new float will cost $25,000, said Field.
Town Administrator Mike Gagne said the Capitol Improvements Committee has approved the purchase of the float, which will be voted on at Fall Town Meeting.
Field and the Marine Advisory Board also wants to install a dinghy dock near Barstow Wharf.
“A lot of people’s moorings are closer to there,” said Field, who will reconfigure a dinghy dock to include more boats.
As each dinghy moored on the dock will be charged a fee, Field said the new setup will pay for itself.
“If we just put a float like we were going to, it doesn’t make us any money. This will, in 10 years, do it for us,” he said.
