Mike the Bubble Man kicks off week of science in Rochester
Dish detergent and water are just soap film, but a little air turns it into a bubble, says Mike the Bubble Man Dorval.
Part performance, part science lesson, the Bubble Man entertained kids at the Rochester Congregational Church as part of the kick off for Plumb Library's summer reading program and a week of activities incorporating science, technology, engineering and math.
With his interactive presentation, Dorval taught kids the basics of making bubbles in all sizes while telling them interesting facts about the soapy spheres.
"Bubbles are ten times thinner than a sheet of paper," said Dorval.
They also want to be round, though with a square bubble maker, he was able to create a six-sided bubble.
Kids got the chance to make bubbles of their own, and using a hula hoop, Dorval put several people inside giant bubbles.
After the presentation, the Bubble Man also advised parents that the best bubbles are made with normal dishwashing liquid, water and a few days to sit.
The program was funded with help from the Rochester Cultural Council.
