Jun 6, 2017

One Old Rochester Regional High School student will head west to the University of San Diego, others will head south to universities in South Carolina, Kentucky, and Tennessee, while most college-bound graduates will stay in the state or in New England in the fall.

A total of 149 seniors have chosen to pursue higher education, while seven others will join the military.

For the second year in a row, Bristol Community College is the top choice among graduates. Last year, more than 20 students chose to attend BCC, and this year, the college will welcome 24 more tri-town students.

The next most popular school for ORR grads is nearby UMass Dartmouth, which will enroll 16 Old Rochester graduates in the fall. The only other college to receive more than ten Old Rochester seniors was Bridgewater State University, where 13 students will matriculate this fall.

“The college was affordable, and the campus is really nice,” explained senior Madeline Morris, who is attending Bridgewater State in the fall.

Other ORR seniors staying close to home decided on such schools as UMass Amherst, Northeastern University and Worcester State University.

Colleges in Connecticut and Rhode Island were also popular. Popular choices include Qunnipiac, University of New Hampshire, Roger Williams University,  and the University of Rhode Island.

Elsewhere in the U.S.: Virginia Tech and the Virginia Military Institute will each gain an Old Rochester graduate; the University of South Carolina will receive three students. One student each will matriculate at the University of Kentucky - Lexington and the University of Tennessee - Knoxville, the University of Tampa.

Graduation is scheduled for June 3 at the high school. The ceremony will begin at noon.
