Music festival benefits Rochester musician, painter
Area musicians made a lot of noise Sunday at “Waynestock 2013,” a one-day benefit concert for drummer and painter Wayne Ferreira.
Ferreira, of Rochester, has lived with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis since 2001. The disease has progressed to the point where he is unable to work or build the financial reserve required for his post double-lung transplant surgical recovery.
Ticket sales from the event raised $14,100. Money raised from donations is still being counted, event organizers said.
Without the funds, he will be rejected as a candidate for the transplant.
Those who attended had three rooms of non-stop music to listen to at the Seaport Inn and Marina in Fairhaven.
“The most talented musicians have volunteered today. The hardest part for people who showed up is deciding what room to be in. I’m just in awe,” said Angela Grace, the event’s organizer.
Waynestock featured area musicians as well as a magician, DJ, raffle, and both live and silent auctions.
“I can’t believe all of the talent we were able to get under one roof,” Grace said.
