Nate Reece remains Park Commission winner after recount
ROCHESTER — Nate Reece remains the winner of the Park Commission race in the Rochester Town Election after incumbent David Hughes challenged the initial results and requested a recount.
After recounting the votes on Thursday, June 12, officials confirmed that Hughes received 472 votes while Reece received 480, matching the election day count.
“The results were the same as the initial,” said Town Clerk Marjorie Barrows.
Volunteers counted the ballots, which were split into groups of 50, with one person reading out the name on the ballot a voter chose and another person keeping track of how many votes were cast for Hughes and Reece in each batch of ballots.
Observers from both Hughes’ and Reece’s campaigns watched on to ensure results were being read correctly.
After Barrows announced the results of the recount, Hughes thanked the volunteers for being there.
