National Night Out Against Crime, Aug. 6
On Tuesday August 6, the Marion, the Mattapoisett and the Rochester Police Departments will celebrate the annual National Night Out Against Crime.
The event will take place on the grounds of the Old Rochester Regional High School, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The police will be joined by the tri-town fire and EMS departments, the Marion Harbormaster Department, and Marion Recreation Department.
The Southeastern Law Enforcement Council (S.E.M.L.E.C.) will have representation from its Search and Rescue and SWAT divisions. The police also requested to have the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing helicopter land at the event. The Massachusetts Air National Guard will participate in this year’s event as well.
National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event, which is designed to encourage camaraderie between citizens and local first responders. The event is designed to produce an opportunity for local residents and law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies to come together and strengthen their relationships with each other.
This year, the Tri-Town National Night Out is organized by a collaboration of volunteers from the tri-town police, fire and EMS departments, the Marion Harbormaster Department, the Marion Recreation Department, the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit, the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, and the Massachusetts Air National Guard.
Admission is free. There will be free gift bags given to the first 150 children. There will be music and food vendors from Oxford Creamery, Perry’s Last Stand, and Flour Girls.
The Marion Police Brotherhood will provide each child with a ticket to receive one free hotdog, ice cream, cookie, and bottled water. There will be free face painting by Handi Mandi face painting and an inflatable moonwalk for the children.
The Massachusetts Air National Guard is providing an inflatable basketball game for the children. Adults and their children will have the opportunity to see and have their picture taken with the local first responder vehicles present at the event.
