New Rochester police officer sworn in
Alyson Rego was officially sworn in at Monday night's Selectmen meeting after Police Chief Paul Magee announced her appointment two weeks ago.
Rego started at the Rochester Police Department in 2014 as a part-time officer. She graduated from UMass Dartmouth with a degree in criminal justice, and also earned a Master's Degree in criminal justice from Curry College.
"She has been very community oriented," Magee said. "She get's community policing. She's great for the department."
Rego is also certified in Rape Aggression Defense and has taught rape defense classes in the area.
One full-time officer will be retiring in the near future and another will be leaving to go on a nine month military deployment. Rego will begin by taking over the vacant position left by the officer on deployment, and will stay on as another retires.
The appointment is of no extra cost to the town, as the military deployment is unpaid leave.
