New telescope brings stars into focus at Plumb Library
Residents can get a glimpse of Saturn’s rings, the International Space Station and other celestial bodies with Plumb Library’s latest addition, a tabletop telescope.
Library Director Gail Roberts told Selectmen on Monday nigh that the Aldrich Astronomical Society and John Jawor donated a Orion 4.5-inch Starblast telescope for residents to check out.
The telescope, which costs $350, is the first of its kind donated to a library in Southeastern Massachusetts.
“We are honored to be the first library in the area to offer this,” Roberts said.
A presentation and “star party” will be held Monday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the library to familiarize patrons with how to operate the telescope. The program will start with a presentation from the Aldrich Astronomical Society. Following that participants will get a chance to use the telescope outside, weather permitting.
To register for the event, call the library at 508-763-8600.
