No day passes for the beach this summer in Mattapoisett

MATTAPOISETT—The Board of Selectmen have decided not to sell day passes to the beach this summer.

At a June 1 meeting, Selectmen Jordan Collyer and Jodi Bauer agreed that Mattapoisett residents with season passes should be prioritized.

Town Administrator Michael Lorenco said that he received a number of calls last summer from people asking whether it was legal for people to park on the side of the road and walk to the beach without a beach pass. It is, he said. Legally, the town cannot prevent people from legally parking on the side of the road and accessing the beach on foot.

Collyer pointed out that a day pass program wouldn’t bring in enough money to cover the cost of having an attendant at the beach to sell passes and monitor parking.
