Nomination papers for 2018 Rochester election now available
Rochester's nomination papers are available for any residents wishing to run for town office in the 2018 Town Election.
Town Moderator Kirby Gilmore's term ends in 2018, as do the terms of Selectman Naida Parker and Planning Board members Ben Bailey and John DiMaggio.
Paul Ciaburri, Rochester's Emergency Management Director, is the first to submit his name for the Board of Selectmen, having already taken out nomination papers.
"I thought about running in the last election, but I was still working, so it didn't seem fair," Ciaburri said of his decision to run. He recently retired from a 34-year career as the Chief Engineer for Moran Towing Corporation in New York, and decided the time was right to try for a selectman seat.
"I've lived in town for a long time, and I just don't like the way it's been going for the last six or eight months," Ciaburri said. "I figure I should do something about it."
Board of Assessors member Jana Cavanaugh and Tree Warden Jeffrey Eldridge have also taken out nomination papers to return to their seats, alongside School Committee members Tina Rood and Robin Rounseville.
Also up for re-election, should they choose to run in 2018, are Board of Health member Dale Barrows, Plumb Library Trustees Noelle Johnson and Mary-Patrice Ruocco, Cemetery Commission member Veronica Lafreniere, Park Commission member Kenneth Ross and Water Commission member Michael Conway.
The deadline to pull papers and return them to the Town Clerk's office is February 21.
The last day to register as a Rochester voter in order to vote in the 2018 election is March 22.
