Nomination papers available for Mattapoisett annual election

The annual town election includes openings for one position on the Board of Selectmen, two on the Mattapoisett School Committee and one on the Planning Board.

Selectman Chair Jordan Collyer has taken out papers to apply for another term three-year term on the board, but has not submitted them yet.

On the Mattapoisett School Committee, Charles Motta and Patrick LeClair’s terms are both up. Thus far, only LeClair has pulled papers.

For the Planning Board, Karen Field’s position is coming up for election and she is the only person to date who has pulled papers.

With March 29 as the final day to submit papers, there’s still plenty of time for candidates to put their hat in the ring for the open positions.

So far, only three people have submitted papers for openings: Leda Kim for a vacancy on the Mattapoisett Housing Authority, incumbent Roland Cote for tree warden and Ken Pacheco for constable.

The complete list of open positions and terms is as follows:

Selectmen, one position for three years; assessor, one position for three years; Mattapoisett School Committee, two positions for three years; trustee of public library, two positions for three years; moderator, one position for one year, water/sewer commissioner, one position for three years; Board of Health, one position for three years; Planning Board, one position for five years; Mattapoisett Housing Authority, one position for four years to fill a vacancy; Community Preservation Committee, two positions for two years, Old Rochester Regional District School Committee, one position for three years; tree warden, one position for three years; constable, two positions for three years; and herring inspector, one position for three years.

 

The town election is May 17. The last day to take out papers is March 25 and the last day to submit them to the town clerk’s office is March 29.
