Old Colony athlete Jake Pringle tackles varsity sports

Nov 21, 2012

Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School junior Jake Pringle is a busy guy.

He pitches varsity baseball, plays basketball, and also happens to be the quarterback on the school’s football team.

His schedule may be rough for a high school student, but Pringle said it all comes with being competitive by nature.

“I just love competition,” Pringle said. “I’ve been doing sports everyday after school since the fourth grade. Everyone can come in and leave, but I just can’t do that.”

During the fall, Pringle’s extra-curricular focus is football.

As a freshman, Pringle started as a lineman for the Cougars.

Now that he has moved up to the quarterback spot, Pringle said he knows there is always room for improvement.

He learns from his losses and is pleased with the wins.

Since the season started in October, the Cougars’ losses have piled up.

Although, in the final match up, Old Colony defeated Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School with a final score of  20-13.

The team finished its 2012 season with a record of 3-7.

Despite the losses, Pringle said he is confident the team can turn things around next year.

“As a team we’ll just keep working and see where it takes us,” he said.

“Last year we went 3-7. I thought we did all we could, but we’ll just keep improving.”

Last summer, Pringle attended football camps at both Boston College and at the University of New Hampshire.

He is also on a daily workout regiment that includes running two miles, jump rope, and weights.

Pringle has another year left at Old Colony and is already contemplating a career in sports.

After he graduates, Pringle said he hopes to study sports management and possibly become a coach.

So which sport would he like to coach?

His answer: "All of them."
