Old Colony to hold July graduation ceremony

May 25, 2020

ROCHESTER — Though they may not be able to celebrate their graduation as they normally would in early June, seniors at Old Colony will be honored the next month during their senior week, ending with graduation on July 19.

On July 13, seniors will have a socially-distanced BBQ,  the school will hold a virtual awards ceremony that will be streamed online on July 14, a promenade on July 16 and graduation on Oliviera Field on July 19. This is the earliest day schools can have an in-person graduation, according to state guidelines.

On July 19, only immediate family will be able to attend the ceremony and children under five and those vulnerable to contracting the virus should not attend, per the state’s guidelines for the event. Spectators and graduates alike will have to sit six feet apart, and masks will be required.

In a May 23 announcement, the school also said it will have a drive-up “senior sign out” event on May 28. Students will drive up to the main entrance on their last official day, where they will be greeted by teachers and staff members, receive their cap, gown and school records, and return any books, electronic devices signed out and payment for any outstanding items.
