Old Colony Robotics club heads to regional championship
In only its second year, the Old Colony Robotics Club has qualified to compete in the Southern New England Championship.
The Robotics Club began in the 2014-15 school year with the donation of a Vex robot. Under the volunteer direction of electronics engineering instructor Dan Brush and science teacher Bill Trimble, a small but committed group of students spent countless hours preparing their robots for battle.
On Jan. 9 at Bristol Community College, the team – seniors Nick Smith, Jesse Goodwin; sophomores John Barnes, Tanner Safford, Jasper Tan; and freshman Ben Jensen – qualified their robot.
On March 5 and 6, the team will travel to Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester to compete against 67 other qualifying high school teams from Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
The March competition is a qualifying event for the World Championship in Louisville, Kentucky in April.
