Old Colony stage gets colorful for ‘Clue’ debut

May 12, 2024

ROCHESTER — Mystery is afoot at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School.

The school’s theater company debuted “Clue” on Friday, May 10 and followed up with two additional shows on Saturday, May 11.

The play is based on a popular board game of the same name that has also been made into a movie, which released in 1985.

Due to the number of students who auditioned for roles in the production, two different casts were selected.

A cast mainly made of underclassmen took the stage for the first weekend of showings.

A second cast, comprised mostly of seniors, will take over on Friday, May 17 through Sunday, May 19. One show will take place each day of the second weekend.

The show is co-directed by brothers, faculty Tyler and Ryan Lewis.

Ryan said that the ending of the play will be different in the second weekend than it was in the weekend prior, allowing viewers to see both casts without knowing the outcome.

“It's actually been very fun to try and do the double cast specifically,” said Ryan. “We’ve had both casts there at the same time and will switch in and out to try to find who has the best [chemistry.]”

Ryan, who also teaches math at Old Colony, said that it is the first time that the theater company has put on a comedy since he started working at the school in 2022. He said that he hopes the audience “enjoys the antics” and that the show makes guests feel good.

“The students have been amazing to work with,” said Ryan. “Our seniors will get to do the last performance that we have for the season as their last performance — it is pretty cool to see that.”

The second weekend of showtimes are as follows: Friday, May 17 at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m.
