Old Hammondtown Cabaret Night showcases musical students
Students showed off their musical skills before a packed house on Thursday for Old Hammondtown School's first Cabaret Night.
A fundraiser for the school's library and band, families thronged to the cafetorium-turned-cabaret to hear short sets from instrumental and choral ensembles.
School Adjustment Counselor Laura Courage and music director Emily LaFleur organized the event with help from school musicians, the student council, parents and staff.
The young musicians, said Courage, "wanted a different way to perform that felt fresh and new."
Courage was very pleased with how the turnout, which was standing room only.
"I can't believe how many people are here!" she said.
Proceeds from ticket and snack sales at the event will go to the band and to purchase new books for the library.
