MATTAPOISETT — Mattapoisett resident and Old Rochester Regional High School senior Jacob Newton was selected as December’s student of the month by school faculty and staff. 

The student of the month awards are sponsored by The Elks of Wareham / New Bedford Lodge No. 73. 

Newton is a member of the Old Rochester Regional High School unified basketball team and “exemplifies the unified sports mission of meaningful inclusion,” according to a press release from The Elks. “He is a rebounding machine, and creates countless opportunities for his teammates to score.”

“Newton is a positive role model for his teammates, and always has a smile on his face,” according to the press release. “If not on the court, Newton is cheering on the sidelines and high fiving his teammates. He is an outstanding example of what it means to be a Bulldog!”

According to The Elks, they nominate students from local high schools who excel in “scholarship, citizenship, performing arts, fine arts, hobbies, athletics, church, school and community service, industry and farming.”
