Old Rochester Booster club begins press box fundraising

Dec 18, 2019

ORR Athletic Boosters Club is looking for funding to rebuild the ORR press box.

Over the past two years, the Boosters have raised the money to build the actual press box, but  need community assistance for the legally required handicap access system. The ramp/lift combination will cost $60,000 and will not only provide access to the press box, but also additional wheelchair seating at the top of the bleachers.

Last spring, Marion and Mattapoisett residents voted to contribute $20,000 from Community Preservation Act Funds to provide handicap access. These funds are contingent on participation from all three towns.

Because Rochester has not adopted the Community Preservation Act, funding must be raised differently.

Rochester has set up the O.R.R. Handicap Accessible Press Box Account and is now actively accepting donations. Checks can made out to the “Town of Rochester” and can be brought to the Town Hall.  Please note " ORR Handicap Accessible Press Box Accounts" on your check's memo line.

Donors can also contribute funds to https://www.gofundme.com/f/tmbspt-handicap-access-for-orr-press-box?utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=customer&utm_campaign=p_lico+share-sheet and they will be deposited in the Town of Rochester account.

A gift of $5,000 has lowered the group’s goal to $15,000. If donations are made by  Jan. 1, the press box can be completed in time for the Class of 2020 graduation ceremonies in the spring.
