Old Rochester Regional debuts Junior Class Talent Show
The Old Rochester Regional High School students were out to prove they have a few hidden talents on Wednesday. March 7, when they took to the stage for the Junior Class Talent Show.
With judges gazing upon them from the first row, the students performed a variety of acts including singing, rapping, dancing, and instrumentals.
Before the show, junior class advisor and talent show organizer, Jeanette Raposa said that the students were well prepared for their big debut.
“The students have worked so hard on this event and judging just from auditions and rehearsals, it promises to be a great evening,” she said.
The show began with first act Justin Smilan playing guitar and singing “Hallelujah.”
Some of the dance acts included, Evan Lacombe with a ballet inspired dance performance to “Bloodstream,” Madelyn Pelegrino’s dance to Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain,” Korryn Pinard to “Leave,” Katie Kiernan to “Almost Lover,” and Angela Weigal danced to “Slow Me Down.”
Nick Mathiue sang “Dancing Shoes” accompanied by Fred Murolo playing the piano.
After a brief intermission, Mikalya Florio returned to the stage and sang Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” accompanied again by pianist Fred Murolo, guitarist Nick Johnson and drummer Josh Bardwell.
Jon Zucco sang Rascal Flatt’s “God Bless the Broken Road,” and Zack Bowditch sang “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” on a bright red ukulele.
Ian Gray rapped “Dreaming with a Broken Heart” as Haley Dickerson played piano. Ian’s older brother Nick, who had made the trip home from Suffolk University to sing alongside his brother, joined them onstage.
Pianist Fred Murolo, on stage for his third time, ended the show with his performance of “Apologize/River Flows in Me.”
After a brief deliberation, the judges declared three-time pianist of the night Fred Murolo the second place winner, followed by first place winner Evan Lacombe for his dance performance to “Bloodstream.”
All proceeds from the show benefited the junior class of 2013 and their upcoming semi-formal dance.
