Open house scheduled to celebrate National Library Week

Mar 26, 2022

MATTAPOISETT — In observance of National Library Week, the Mattapoisett Free Public Library, 7 Barstow St., will host an open house from 4 to 6 p.m Wednesday, April 6.

Light refreshments will be served. Visitors can connect with library staff, learn about library services and programs, and discover how to get involved with the Friends of the Mattapoisett Library or the Mattapoisett Library Trust.

During National Library Week, which is celebrated April 3 to 9, the library encourages all community members to visit the library in person or online to explore and access services and programs.

The Mattapoisett Free Public Library offers a wide array of programs, classes and resources that are available in person or from home, including OverDrive, Hoopla, Kanopy, and the BBC Landmark Video collection.

The theme for this year’s National Library Week is “Connect with Your Library,” which promotes the idea that libraries are places to get connected to technology by using broadband, computers and other resources. Libraries also offer opportunities to connect with media, programs, ideas and classes, in addition to books. Libraries also connect communities to each other.

Libraries across the country provide electronic learning resources such as online homework help and wi-fi access for students and workers who may lack internet access at home. The Mattapoisett Free Public Library supports the community with services such as hotspot lending, public computer access, and a media lab that will debut soon.

This National Library Week, the public can show their appreciation and support for libraries by visiting their library in person or online, following them on social media and using the hashtag #NationalLibraryWeek.
