ORCTV offers new audio service for visually impaired

Jul 10, 2013

ORCTV will now offer a new audio service to give the visually impaired access in Marion and Rochester access to more news and magazines.

Audible Local Ledger, an affiliate of the Massachusetts Radio Reading Service, turns print into sound to benefit the approximately 7,700 blind or visually impaired people in the southeastern Massachusetts listening area.

This free service is now streaming on the local government channels in Marion and Rochester between regular programs, and features a combination of network and local programming. Listeners can hear volunteers read from the Standard Times, the Cape CodTimes, the Boston Globe, and a variety of magazines such as Sports Illustrated, National Geographic, and Reader’s Digest.

“For those people who are visually impaired and can’t keep up with the news, this will help them immensely,” said Audible Local Ledger’s executive director Sherry Bergeron.
