MATTAPOISETT — Picture a serene beach sunrise, the sound of waves lapping the shore and the call of seagulls overhead. Then picture a plastic bottle half-buried in the sand.

Earth cleanups serve as the chance to “kick out those uninvited guests” — like that unwelcome plastic bottle in the beach scene and other litter, trash and waste — and restore natural spaces, a news release from the Mattapoisett Sustainability Partnership said.

The partnership will be holding its first fall cleanup Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library, 7 Barstow St.

Supplies will be provided, and attendees can get an area assignment or choose a site.

Whether it’s a local park, neighborhood or beach, every piece of waste picked up “is a love letter to our planet,” according to the Mattapoisett Sustainability Partnership.

“Earth cleanups are the stitches that mend our wounded Earth, one discarded plastic bottle or wrapper at a time,” the release said.

To register, visit the events calendar on the Mattapoisett Free Public Library’s website.
