ORR athletes dial up local residents

Mar 6, 2013

Old Rochester Regional High School athletes started their annual phonathon fundraiser on Monday with the ubiquitous tri-town Blue Book of phone numbers in hand.

“Each kid pulls out a page, starts from the top, and goes from there,” said Michael Bare, ORR Athletics Booster Club president.

Several teams gather to make calls on each of the eight nights of phonathon.

“It gives them an opportunity to connect with the community,” said Bare. “Without this, a lot of things wouldn’t get done.”

Two-years ago, the booster club used phonathon funds to purchase a concession trailer for the athletic department. The club  also gives $6,000 in scholarships each year.

Bare said the economy will determine if the students can raise their goal of $20,000.

Of the students, Bare said, “They do a nice job. I’m proud of the way they handle themselves.”
