On Saturday, June 25, six individuals, one basketball team, a former coach and athletic director, and one special contributor to Old Rochester athletics were welcomed into the Old Rochester Athletic Association's Hall of Fame.

Susan Lake

Susan Lake, a graduate of the class of 1978, was a three-season athlete at Old Rochester - she played softball, basketball and field hockey. She excelled at softball, playing at the varsity level for six years.

She earned the team's "Most Valuable Player" (MVP) award during her freshman, sophomore and senior years, along with league all-star awards.

Lake, also a four year starter and captain for basketball and field hockey, was again awarded team MVP for three consecutive years, in both sports. She attained 14 letters overall during her high school years.

Paul Tinkham

Paul Tinkham, affectionately referred to as "Tink" was a two-sport athlete, playing football and baseball. According to a press release from Old Rochester Athletic Director Bill Tilden, "Tink" was known for toughness and as a “banger” on the gridiron.

Tinkham was named the captain of the football team in both 1980 and 1981. He was also the SCC Division 3 scoring leader his senior year ,scoring 102 points that year.

Tinkham was equally fierce on the batting plate, hitting a .339 his senior year. He was named captain his senior year and continued his baseball career in college. He played for the University of Connecticut Huskies for four years.

Tiffany Jawor

Tiffany Jawor graduated in 1993, having amassed local, state, and national accolades for her record breaking discus and shot put throws. In four years of winter and spring track, she was undefeated in conference meets.

She broke the conference record in the shot put with a throw of 38’3” and the Class D Massachusetts state record in the discus with a throw of 122’ 8”.

She is the only Old Rochester athlete to be crowned a champion at the Loucks Games, a top high-school athletic meet held in New York. She won the discus event at this national meet not just once, but three times consecutively, in 1991, 1992 and 1993. She also placed in the shot put event in all three years that she competed.

Joshua Mechler

Joshua Mechler graduated ORR in 2000. He started on the soccer team all four years of high school, and was asked to play for the Division 1 post-season All-Star game in his senior year.

Mechler was a leading scorer for three years, the soccer team's MVP for two years, and the soccer team captain for three years. He also played basketball for four years.

After high school, Mechler played soccer at Merrimack College on a scholarship, graduating with a degree in Biochemistry. He is married with three daughters and coaches youth soccer still.

Patrick O’Connor

Patrick O’Connor, a graduate of the class of 2004, earned 11 varsity letters in football, winter track and baseball through his high school career.

On the football field he set what was, at the time, the single season rushing record with 1,402 yards and broke the single season touchdown record (20). He led the Bulldogs to an 11-0 record in 2003.

O'Connor also spent a lot of time on the baseball diamond. He was a three-time all-star and played on the baseball team all four years. In O'Connor's senior year, he hit .460 and garnered seven home runs.

Brian Tonelli

Brian Tonelli, who graduated in 2003, was the captain of three sports in his time at Old Rochester - winter and spring track and football.

According to former ORR Football head coach Craig Sherman, Tonelli was the best lineman he had coached at Old Rochester.

As a football player, Tonelli was a member of the Boston Globe All-Scholastic Football Team and was chosen to play in the Spring All-State Shriner’s Football Classic Game.

Tonelli also excelled at the shot put and discus. In 2003, he qualified for the Loucks Memorial Games.

1997-98 Lady Bulldogs Basketball Team

The 1997-1998 Lady Bulldogs basketball team won the Massachusetts State Basketball Championship, with a final record of 24-2. After defeating rivals the Bishop Stang Spartans, the Fairhaven Blue Devils and the Rockland High Bulldogs, ORR then defeated Westwood in the South Sectional Championship. They then captured the East Coast Division championship, which led to a championship matchup with the Western Divison champions, Lee High School. A 19-point victory secured the state championship for the Lady Bulldogs. The 15-member team, coached by Robert Hohne, included Marissa Rand, Tiffany Lopes (capt.), Eryka Vickers, Kate O’Shaughnessy (capt.), Becky Okolita, Carla Ferreira, Sheila Ferreira, Rhea DaSilva, Bernadette Clark, Monyca Vickers, Jill Almeida, Jill LaBrecque. Margaret Liliedahl, Sarah Bourque and Camille Chu.

Andy Santos

Santos started at Old Rochester Regional High School in October of 1972. He was both the school business manager and assistant to the superintendent. Santos was, according to Tilden, a key contributor to getting girls equal footing with the boys and helped build Old Rochester into the sports powerhouse it is today.

After retiring from the high school in December of 1998, he realized he couldn’t stay away. Santos returned as interim Athletic Director from October 2001 until September of 2002.

Santos also worked as an assistant to Old Rochester's gold team in 2004, and took over as head coach in 2005. He remained the golf team's head coach until he retired (again) in 2012.

With Andy at the helm, Old Rochester golf went 119-17-3 and captured four South Coast Conference (SCC) Championships. The team won the SCC tournament five times under his tutelage.

“Significant Contributor” Award

This year's Significant Contributor Award, for those who have made a strong contribution to Old Rochester athletics, was this year given to former teacher Ed Walsh.

Walsh taught in the Old Rochester Regional School District from 1966 until 2003. Walsh taught, coached, and mentored many students, athletes, and young teachers to become the best that they could be at whatever endeavor they pursued.

According to a press release from the Old Rochester Athletic Director, Walsh was "an outstanding assistant coach who touched many young lives and families through his selfless mentoring with his time, expertise, and wisdom."
