ORR budget still a work in progress
With the governor’s budget just announced and more feedback needed from town leadership, the Old Rochester Regional School Committee decided to wait on approving the 2016 budget.
The proposed ORR budget is $17,269,114, a 4.2 percent increase over the current budget. That number included estimates of funding from the state level, some of which have turned out to be less than hoped.
The governor’s budget, which will be followed up with drafts from the house and senate, includes a $188,456 reduction in transportation reimbursements from the state.
The governor’s proposed budget would result in a total increase of $36,162 in the amount the three towns would pay to the ORR school district.
The “moving target” coming from Boston means more work needs to be done. Additionally, the budget is about a month behind because the state inaugurated a new governor in January.
“I think for us it’s a matter of having additional conversations with the towns before asking you to approve a number that I may have to have you come back and amend anyway,” White told the committee.
The School Committee needs to approve a budget by April 11, a month before the first Town Meeting on May 11.
