ORR girls tennis 5-2 in sixth week

Apr 28, 2015

The cold spring may have altered some plans for the Old Rochester Regional Lady Bulldogs tennis team, but the girls have held their own. With Coach Bob Hohne switching up playing positions throughout the season, the team has kept most of its opposition at bay.

Now in the sixth week of the regular season, the team’s record stands at 5-2 (5-1 in the South Coast Conference).

Strong performances from all players saw ORR with a 5-0 win at its April 14 match against Seekonk. Two days later, the team traveled to Wareham for another SCC competition. Hohne altered his lineup to experiment with different doubles pairings. Freshman Caroline Murphy and sophomore Alexis Parker took the court for their first time together and were victorious at second doubles. The Lady Bulldogs got wins from the rest of the team as well to take another match 5-0.

Over April vacation, Hohne made more changes to the lineup. In the absence of two Lady Bulldog starters, junior Olivia Bellefeuille was moved up from third singles to second singles and freshman Caroline Murphy played second doubles.

On April 22, ORR trekked up to Dighton-Rehoboth High School to take on the Lady Falcons. Falling 2-3, the Lady Bulldogs suffered their first SCC loss of the season. Bellefeuille filled her new role at second singles in style with a hard fought three set win.  Julia Nojeim won at first singles.

Next, the Lady Bulldogs travelled to Bourne on April 24 where they took home a 4-1 win thanks to contributions from Nojeim, Bellefeuille (again in a three set contest at second singles), Emma Collings and Sophia Church at first doubles, and Katelyn Bindas and Alexis Parker at second doubles.

With April vacation over and the usual starters back in place, the question is whether Hohne will keep his new lineup or goes back to his original. As the season continues, Hohne is still experimenting to find the two doubles pairings he intends to stick with.

The Lady Bulldogs host rival Apponequet Wednesday, April 29 for their next match. Friday, May 1, ORR travels to take on Seekonk again.
