ORR looks to expand course offerings
Principal Mike Devoll says he and the faculty are working to improve the course offerings at Old Rochester Regional High School.
On Wednesday, Devoll received approval for two of those new courses – sports media and creativity, inspiration and innovation. Both classes will be offered by the English department and will be half-year electives.
“These would be supplemental courses for students for enrichment,” said Devoll.
Last year the department added genealogy and had 33 students sign up, though the class was capped at 30.
Devoll said the new classes are expected to have interest from students, but if not, they will not go forward. Additionally, the courses will not require extra staffing.
The additional courses come as students prepare to select classes in February.
In other news, Devoll said the school will look to continue increasing the Advanced Placement offerings in coming years. Currently, 12 of the college preparatory classes are offered, though AP French will be phased out soon.
Devoll said he believes the curriculum for some courses at the school may already be AP quality work, which would be evaluated.
“I anticipate some additional APs in the near future,” he said.
