ORR School Committee increases substitute pay rates

Jan 14, 2016

On Wednesday night, the Old Rochester Regional School Committee unanimously approved an increase in pay for substitute teachers.

Superintendent Doug White has discussed the proposed increases with all of the tri-town school committees in light of the shrinking pool of approved substitutes.

The proposed increases are two tiered: Aides, also called paraprofessionals, would go from $8.50 an hour to $65 a day effective immediately and $70 on Sept. 1; substitutes with a teaching license would receive an increase from $70 a day to $75 now and $85 on Sept. 1; non-certified teachers would get a bump from $65 per day to $70 now and $80 in September.

The Mattapoisett School Committee already approved the increases while Marion decided to wait until its next meeting. Rochester members approved the initial increase but will further discuss the bump in September at their next meeting.

The ORR School Committee approved both increases.
