ORR senior receives superintendent's award

Dec 8, 2017

Old Rochester Regional High School senior Jahn Pothier received the 2018 Superintendent Certificate of Academic Excellence.

The award and its criteria was designed by the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents. To be considered for the award, the superintendent looks into a student’s three-year cumulative average and their class rank. Ultimately, the student chosen is a personal selection of Superintendent Doug White, who has the leeway of choosing from the top five percent of the class.

Pothier is ranked second in his class and has a 4.40 grade point average. As a junior, he was distinguished as an Advanced Placement Scholar with Honors. His AP classes include U.S. history, English language composition, chemistry and statistics. He scored a perfect five on two of the AP exams, while receiving a four on the other two. As a senior, he is currently enrolled in AP biology, English and calculus.

Outside of the classroom, Pothier is a member of the math team and the captain for both the cross country team and boys tennis team. He also volunteers at Mobil Loaves and Fishes where he loads trucks with food, clothes and toiletries that are delivered to the homeless in New Bedford.
