ORR seniors dominate in powerpuff game
The juniors at Old Rochester Regional High School may have bested them at the homecoming pep rally, but the seniors were ready for a comeback in the endzone on Tuesday night.
The two classes faced off for an intense powderpuff game on the ORR football field.
Coached by junior Nolan Bergeron and senior Dan Donohue, the junior and senior girls said preparing for the game was intense.
“We had many practices. Many informative practices,” said senior Breannon Meuse. “There was no ball. It was all about positioning, timing, structure. It was all about preparation for today.”
Although the stands were sparsely populated as temperatures dipped near freezing, dozens of fans piled onto the sidelines to cheer on their team and to help coach.
Most of the girls are also athletes on ORR teams, said cheerleader Nicole Enos.
Enos, a junior, said the competition was tough, but in her opinion there wasn’t much riding on the game since her class won the annual skit competition at the homecoming pep rally. The award usually goes to the seniors.
“We already won something for the year,” she said.“If they won this, it’s not a huge disappointment.”
The seniors definitely had a (friendly) take no prisoners attitude, running the ball along the edge of the field and thwarting all of the junior’s attempts at a touchdown.
By halftime, the seniors were up 30-0.
“It’s been very physical, but we make up for it,” said senior Allison Francis.
The seniors continued to dominate for the second half of the game, leaving the juniors with their pep rally win and a final score of 44-0.
