After taking her students to Rome in the past, Old Rochester Regional Latin teacher Judy Pretaté is planning a trip closer to home.

On Wednesday, Pretaté received approval from the School Committee to take 14 seniors to the Getty Villa Museum in Los Angeles. The museum is dedicated to the study of ancient Greece and Rome, said Pretaté.

Pretaté said students in her Latin 5 class asked for the senior trip.

“The nice thing about teaching Latin is I have the students three years in a row,” Pretaté said. “We really get to know each other.”

In addition to touring the museum, Pretaté said the students would take a grand tour of Los Angeles and spend a morning at the beach.

If all goes well, Pretaté said she would consider making the trip a yearly event.
