ORR senior Deianeira Underhill of Rochester played in her first softball tournament as a member of the Under Armour Softball Factory National Team this December at Holman Stadium, located in Historic Dodgertown, Vero Beach, Florida.

Underhill, who attended a national tryout last September, was chosen to be part of this National Team. Her first tournament was Dec. 27 through 30.

Underhill said there was no time to become homesick or nervous, because half an hour after her arrival and receiving room assignments, the girls were given five minutes to change into their uniforms and head out onto the field.

The intense schedule had Underhill and the other girls out from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

"We had some of the finest coaches from top notch colleges there helping us to step up our skills and to make sure that not one of us left anything but one hundred fifty percent out on the fields each day," said Underhill, who made friends with girls from Indiana to California.

A standout moment for Underhill was when she got to take the field.

"It was like being in the movie, 'Field of Dreams' when I walked out onto the main stadium field and was told to take the mound," she said.

Underhill's teams took first, second and third in the tournament.

Next, she hopes to be called up for late January to participate in the leagues All America Pre-Season Tournament. Underhill is also playing with an indoor u18 league and bats and pitches daily at a local training facility.

In the spring, she will play with the Lady Bulldogs on the varsity softball team.
