ORR teacher's union OK's return to 'normal practices'
The teachers of Old Rochester Regional Schools have not signed a contract yet, but they may be resuming their former extracurricular involvement.
The teachers have been working without a contract for more than a year and recently stepped back from participating in some non-contractual obligations.
For example, teachers did not participate in the Junior High’s annual Thanksgiving dinner for senior citizens held two weeks ago, although other staff did volunteer.
Before the Old Rochester Professional Educator Association met with the ORR School Committee last week, its President Colin Everett said teachers were looking for a “significant change” in negotiations.
After the meeting said, “The ORPEA negotiating team felt that there was significant progress. We have recommended to our membership that they can, at their discretion, resume their normal practices.”
Junior High Principal Kevin Brogioli said at his school, “Some teachers have resumed normal practices. Others are waiting until an actual contract is signed.”
