'Our Fair Lady' musical to honor Elizabeth Taber

Aug 9, 2015

At nearly 125 years old, the Marion Music Hall is looking better than ever, and to celebrate the woman who gifted it to townspeople residents are putting on a show.

“Our Fair Lady,” a musical with lyrics written specifically about Elizabeth Taber and Marion, will be held Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Hall.

A matinee show will be held Sunday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m.

Presented by the Music Hall Advisory and Gala Committee, the show includes contributions from The Occassion Singers and Barbara Gee, who developed the concept and wrote the show’s lyrics.

Margot Stone, the committee co-chair, said the committee was spurred by the upcoming 125th anniversary to recognize Taber's contributions to the town. Also, the building had recently undergone a series of renovations in 2014.

The town’s Facilities Department installed a new roof, repainted the interior, upgraded handicap accessibility and made many other repairs.

It was the building’s first significant upgrade in 20 years.

Stone said the changes were meant to encourage interest and use in the Music Hall, which was originally built with money donated from Taber. She wanted the hall to serve as the town’s recreational hub.

“It was really Elizabeth Taber’s dream to have this building available for people to enjoy,” Stone said. “And we are really excited to have that still be the case 125 years later.”

Tickets for the show cost $20 and will be available at the Bookstall and the Marion General Store.
