Pan-Mass Challenge cyclist thanks local businessman for support

To the Editor:

I would be remiss if I did not write to acknowledge the kindness and generosity that has been shown to me over the past few months by the Town Wharf General Store and its owner, Mr. Chris Demakis.

This summer I rode in a 163-mile Pan-Mass Challenge course from Wellesley to Provincetown to raise funds for life-saving cancer research and treatment for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. I was daunted by the task of raising a minimum of $4,900 for this worthy and significant cause. My hope was that the community at large would help answer the call for assistance in raising this challenging amount. No one answered the call more than Mr. Demakis

I did not have the privilege of knowing Mr. Demakis prior to April, but was instantly impressed by his easygoing, kind, and generous nature. He not only offered to put up my Pan-Mass flyer, but also offered to make a donation, to maintain a donation jar within the store, and even make some matching donations. His eagerness to help with this cause and his expectation of nothing in return profoundly struck me.

On August 4th and 5th, I successfully rode my 163 miles, but I am far more proud of raising $5,254 for Dana-Farber. Mr. Demakis was an integral part in raising these funds through his work behind the scenes. I am so grateful for all of his time and effort.

It is clear to me that we are very lucky to have an establishment like the Town Wharf General Store and a person of the character of Mr. Demakis within our community.
