Parts of Marion and Mattapoisett were closed to shellfishing and to swimming on June 14 after Marion’s Wastewater Treatment Plant malfunctioned.

The Division of Marine Fisheries issued a notice that the waters, flats and tributaries of Aucoot Cove, Hiller Cove, and the portion of the bay north of a line between Peases Point in Mattapoisett and Centerboard Shoals/the southern end of Converse Point would be closed.

The area was closed to shellfishing as of 7 a.m. on June 14. As of Wednesday, June 19 at 9 a.m. Hiller’s Cove has been reopened for swimming and shellfishing. Aucoot Cove is open for swimming but remains closed for shellfishing.
