Parts of Wings Cove closed to shellfishing

Dec 11, 2019

MARION — Parts of Wings Cove are closed to shellfishing as of Dec. 11, per order of the Division of Marine Fisheries.

The order took effect at sunrise of that date, and impacts an area 50 feet to the north of the creek to the dock at 25 Holly Road and extending seaward for 50 feet. The area is marked by “No Shellfishing” signs.

In a letter dated Dec. 10, the Division of Marine Fisheries said that the area “no longer meets the established criteria for a status of “open to shellfishing.” The letter also referred to a section of state law that had to do with contaminated shellfish.

People are prohibited from taking or having shellfish from the area, even if they have a permit.
