Plans for phase two of the Mattapoisett Bike Path will soon be submitted to the state’s Transportation Improvement Plan.

Once submitted, the plan can be put on a prioritization list for funding.

On Tuesday night, Bonne DeSousa, a member of the Bike Path Committee, got approval from Selectmen to submit the plan. The second phase will extend the path from Depot Street to the Marion town line.

“We’ve followed the route that was already discussed with people at Mass DOT,” said DeSousa.

That plan was first submitted in the 1990s.

DeSousa said, if possible, work on the path may be combined with Marion’s bike path construction and a sewer project along Industrial Drive.

The second phase is likely to still be a long way off, potentially five to seven years.
