ROCHESTER — Rochester residents Catherine Lacause and Jay Wurts spotted this “healthy rare piebald white deer” in their backyard on the morning of Monday, Nov. 13.

“I have not seen this deer in our backyard before,” said Lacause. “In fact, I was not even aware of this type of deer before now. There is something mysterious, intriguing and uplifting about seeing a rare piebald deer if you ever get lucky enough and I feel very blessed to have.”

She added that anyone “blessed to see a piebald or albino deer” should count themselves lucky.

“My hope is for Massachusetts hunters not to shoot these rare beauties for fun/sport,” she said. “Instead, enjoy the rare sight of these white piebald deer and then let it wander off for others to enjoy instead of mounting it on the wall.”
