Photos: Skaters take to Tabor Academy’s rink for an afternoon of fun

MARION — When the Travis Roy Arena opened its doors on Sunday, Jan. 19, it wasn’t for a competitive hockey game, but rather for some family skating fun.

Marion Recreation hosts the event, which raises money for the department through a $5 entry fee.

Parents, teens, adults and kids all skated circles, some with the help of milk crates, folding chairs, or another skater lending a hand, or holding them up.

At one point, a young toddler looked fixedly up at the ceiling. “Hockey puck?,” he asked the Sippican Week reporter, not understanding that the rink had glass and nets in place to stop hockey pucks from ending up in the ceiling.

Marion Recreation will host open skates on Jan. 26, Feb. 2, Feb. 9, Feb. 16, Feb. 23 and March 1.
