Pilgrim Sands Trail Riders 'pay it forward'
Members of the Pilgrim Sands Trail Riders are in the spirit of giving back to Mattapoisett.
After holding two successful hare scramble dirt bike races at the town’s landfill, Chair of the events Bruce Rocha, Jr. said the group has donated funds to the Mattapoisett Boy Scout Troop 53 as well as the Fire and Police Departments.
The Trail Riders also donated funds to the charity Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Rocha, a Mattapoisett resident, said the donated funds came from parking fees at the dirt bike races.
Rocha said he was pleased to be able to “pay it forward” to the town.
“We spoke with the Town Administrator and with the Board of Health and they came up with the ideas of where the money would best used,” Rocha said. “It was a good idea and everybody was very appreciative.”
The last hare scramble, which was held at the landfill last month, brought out more than 100 riders for the short course race.
Rocha said the Trail Riders are aiming to hold more events at the landfill in 2013.
