Play Dungeons and Dragons, talk books with the Mattapoisett Free Public Library

Dec 29, 2020

MATTAPOISETT — Dungeons and Dragons duels, nonfiction book discussions, virtual story time and more are part of the calendar of events at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library for the month of January.

On January 9 and January 21 from 1 to 3 p.m., take on the monstrous beast that is attacking innocent civilians and play Dungeons and Dragons via Zoom. Past players may return to their previous characters. New players are always welcome. New players may create their own character, but must be approved by the dungeon master, and pre-made characters are available. This event is recommended for ages 12 and up.

On January 13, 20 and 27, there will be virtual story time with Miss Chris from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m. with stories, songs, flannelgraphs and finger plays. This event is recommended for ages 0 to 5. Pre-registration is required.

On January 27, join the library for a Zoom discussion of “Underland: A Deep Time Journey” by Robert MacFarlane.  Listed on Time's Best Nonfiction Books of 2019, this book explores the layers of human history as coded in geologic time, from such places as the catacombs in Paris to the icy depths in Greenland. Registration is required to get the Zoom link. Copies of the book will be available for pick up upon request. Send an email to jjones@sailsinc.org or call the library at 508-758-4171 for more information or to register.

Curbside crafts and story time kits will be available starting on January 12 at 10 a.m. Each kit includes age appropriate books, activity sheet and a simple craft. The curbside crafts are recommended for ages three and up, and the story time kits are recommended for ages zero to six.
