Plumb Library summer reading program a success

Sep 6, 2013

The Joseph H. Plumb Memorial Library would like to acknowledge the families and volunteers who made the 2013 Summer Reading Program so successful!

In a nutshell, as a group, we had 280 registrants who read 10,136 hours in a 10-week period, June 21 to Aug. 25. We had 54 adults, 109 kids, and 117 tweens/teens registered and about 90 percent of them logged their reading hours!

Our top adult reader read 300 hours, top kid reader 173, and top tween/teen reader 158.75. There were 66 kids and 132 tweens/teens that made the extra effort to compose book reviews.

Thanks to our major sponsors: Friends of Plumb Library, the MA Library System, the Boston Bruins, the MA Board of Library Commissioners, Mayflower Bank, Rochester Lions Club, MA/Rochester Cultural Council, and the First Congregational Church for providing funding, free materials, space, and gifts.

Thanks to the following local supporters we were able to offer lots of prizes and events: The Pawtucket Red Sox, Captain Bonney’s Creamery, No Kidding Toys, Book Warehouse, Plumb Market, USS Constitution, Flagship Cinemas Wareham, Matt's Blackboard, Wareham Gatemen, Shirt Shack, Market Basket, Hair and Body Solutions, Plumbelina aka Angela Weigel, Bev Pierce, Louisa Medeiros, The McCollester Family, The Winters Family, The Feen Family, The Jeppson Family, The Root Family, The Farias Family, The Wheeler Family, The Mackin Family, Storyteller Andrea Lovett and ORCTV, Author Carla Marrero, Nancy Rocha, Author Diane Finn, Author Scott Blagden, Teacher SaraBeth Morrell, and Author/Teacher Kathy Brunelle.

Special recognition must go to the Junior Friends of Plumb Library, kids aged 9 and up, who worked very hard on their own at home, with their own supplies, to offer Friends Fridays, a weekly author presentation with activities, games, and interesting research about many different authors.

As always, thanks to all the parents, caregivers, and kids who signed up, read, and logged their hours. It was especially wonderful to recognize the teachers and dads who read this year as well!
