Police to accept prescription drugs on Oct. 26
The Mattapoisett Police Department encourages residents to safely dispose of prescription drugs on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the police station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
On that day, the department will be participating in a nationwide initiative by the U.S Drug Enforcement Administration designed to let patients get rid of unused medication.
The department will collect expired or useless prescription medications at the Mattapoisett Police Station, located at 64 County Road.
According to police, the program allows patients to dispose medication in a safe, legal, and environmentally friendly manner. Bringing medications to the department reduces the risk of illegal prescription drug use in the community.
Also, prescription medications will be incinerated to keep the drugs out of the environment where they pose a threat to marine life and public drinking water. The program is designed for individuals, not for medical offices or commercial businesses.
