Police investigating motorcycle crash that killed Rochester man
A Rochester man and his passenger were killed after their motorcycle collided with a telephone pole Tuesday evening on Route 6 according to Fairhaven police, who continue to investigate the crash.
The collision happened around 7:40 p.m. near Welcome Street.
The driver of the motorcycle, Steven Viera, 30, of Rochester was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, John Letendre Jr., 33, of Fairhaven was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment and died soon after.
According to police, Viera was eastbound on Route 6 when he lost control of his 2005 Harley-Davidson and struck a telephone pole. Viera and Letendre, who both had on helmets, were thrown from the motorcycle.
Police said speed and possibly alcohol led to the crash. Fairhaven and Massachusetts State Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
